News, Testimonials, and Press Releases
Terry's music has an immediacy that is captivating. It is utterly sincere and heartfelt and so connects with every listener easily. He has a natural flair for orchestration, borne no doubt of many years spent at the heart of the NCSO, but also (as a brass player) has the knack of the grand gesture and the spectacular which gives many of his compositions a celebratory appeal. As a conductor it is a pleasure to work with a composer who really knows his craft and loves it.
Terry Mizesko's works are first class. I have conducted several of his pieces -- original compositions as well as arrangements for holiday concerts -- and all were very well received by the audience and orchestra alike. I recommend his work with much enthusiasm.
The Fantasy of Carols is profoundly moving...the string writing is reminiscent of Mahler. The Holiday Sing-Along works well as either a medley or a sing-along. The transitions are well written, and the orchestration is brilliant...
Working with Terry on his "A Little Dance Suite" was a rewarding experience. His music was well-received by audiences of all ages and he captured great diversity within the piece. The piece is creative and engaging, with a range of characters that are bold, thoughtful, and plain fun! He presented the Canton Symphony with a work that has limitless possibilities in educational programming and beyond.
Mizesko’s "Fantasy of Carols" ("A Child’s Christmas") was a sparkling orchestration of several of the biggies, neither dumbed down, nor too far afield from the original.
